To Hang Fire

Going back to some terminology I discover during my readings. You fine folks may find it of interest for TTRPGs or general writing. I am currently reading “Brewer’s Dictionary of Phrase and Fable” by E. Cobham Brewer

I received this author recommendation from Neil Gaiman himself. No, I am not on personal first name basis with Mr. Gaiman. He just happens to be super responsive on Twitter. I asked him for interesting reference books and he was very kind with his time to respond.

To Hang Fire

To delay; to be irresolute; to be slow in talking action. An expression derived from gunnery, when the gun is slow in firing the charge.
