Education and Personal Philosophy
I did not do well in high school. Besides my own mental health issues, I was also dealing with physical health issues. I would miss a lot of school and fall behind in my work and this just made things so much worse for me. Once you miss out on one idea and the next lesson builds off of it, it just gets exponentially worse.
I dropped out of high school, took my GED and thought “well, that was that”. It was a chapter in my life in which I thought I was a failure. Over the years I got into poetry, classical works of literature, world and U.S. history, and more. How this came about is a story for another time that involved Iron Maiden, but I adopted a line of thinking that was akin to “If I learn just one thing I did not know before, then my day was not wasted”.
Last year I did the unthinkable and enrolled in college to work on my BA in Business Information Systems. It is a joyous ride in which not only am I learning something new every day, I am doing very well.
I was even invited to join the Golden Key International Honour Society. I think I will do that. I earned it and I learned I am not a failure.
